A major update in the 2025 pensioners is getting created by the ESICorporation. In a bid to provide a social security umbrella, the minimum monthly pension under the EPFO scheme has been raised to ₹3,000, giving reprieve to lakh of retired employees- mostly those under the EPS-95 (Employees’ Pension Scheme).
Why This Change Matters
For a long time, the minimum amount of pension under the EPS-95 scheme had been criticized for being far too little to maintain basic living for a retiree, especially with inflation and the rise in living cost. The increase of a minimum of ₹3,000 per month stands as an enormous uplift and has been conceptualized to ensure that dignified post-retirement life is given to pensioners throughout India.
The enhancement will immensely help the employees who hail from semi-organized and unorganized sectors, who were drawing minimum pension benefits due to their meager salaries during their working years.
Beneficiaries
Pensioners from the EPS-95 who are granted less than ₹3,000 monthly pension under the scheme shall be considered for the enhanced pension amount.
- Retired workers who have not less than 10 years of eligible service under the EPFO;
- Those linking their Aadhaar; and who have activated their UAN with EPFO.
- Whoever fulfills the minimum age and contribution criteria.
- It is essential to verify eligibility and update the EPFO account with the appropriate documents to avoid any payment delays or interruptions.
Payment and disbursal
The EPFO circular states that the revised pension of ₹3,000 would be disbursed within July 2025 onwards; payments will be credited to the bank accounts linked to pensioners directly, as per the present monthly cycle. Pensioners may check the status from the UMANG app, on the EPFO portal, or else from the nearest EPFO office.
What Pensioners Must Do Now
Pensioners should be encouraged to:
- Verify their account and KYC details on the EPFO portal
- Complete Aadhaar and bank account linking
- Keep a copy of their Pension Payment Order (PPO) for reference
- Call the EPFO helpline if there are discrepancies or delays
