In Maharashtra state's Vidarbha region, the Gadachiroli district is still regarded as a backward,
adivasi, naxal-affected area. Due to poor access to transportation and well-maintained roads, the
district has been historically backward since Maharashtra's inception. Although having a plethora of
natural resources, this area has remained underdeveloped due to a lack of transportation, industry,
markets, higher education facilities, etc. With education, a man can advance in all spheres. Man
might be extremely primitive and out of the development stage if there are no educational facilities
available. In practically all of the talukas of the Gadchiroli district, the scenario may still be seen in
almost the same form even today.
The only enterprise in the Gadachiroli district is a small paper mill in the village of Illur, which is close
to Aashti. “Chaparala Prashant Dhama”, a well-known Tirthsthala (Holy sacred Place), is located on
the bank of the Pranhita River at 9 kilometres from Asthi, following the confluence of the Wardha
and Vain- Ganga rivers. On Mahashivratri, a sizable fair (Jatra) consists of devotees from the
surrounding areas who come there. Moreover, Asti has a rich cultural and historical legacy. The region needed to expand its educational opportunities, and one higher education college was
necessary for that. Honorable Abdul Hakeem Abdul Rahim (secretary Van Vaibhav Shikshan Mandal
Aheri) worked tirelessly to build Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Kala Mahavidyalaya in 2000 after taking
the necessity into consideration. The fundamental motivation behind founding this college was to
provide opportunity of holistic development of the people in the vicinity, so they could integrate into
society and make higher education available to everyone. Our college is growing in popularity for a
wide range of sports. Ashtians take pride in the fact that college has turned into a hub of
comprehensive development. The secretary, Hon. Abdul Hakeem Abdul Rahim, has led this college
through a range of development processes since its founding up till the present. The Maharashtra
government recognised Secretary Abdul Hakeem Abdul Rahim's services by awarding him the
Adivasi Sevak Puraskar. With the help of the secretary, the executive committee, the principal, the
faculty, the non-teaching staff, the area's newly admitted students, and the college's alumni, the
institution experiences prosperous phases gradually.
